TAKING STOCK IN OUR ECONOMY
What
is your response to our flagging economy? What do words like recession,
unemployment, and the stock market evoke in your psyche? If you're like
me, you wish that this nightmare would go "poof" and be gone; you'd
wake up from your slumber and realize that it was all just a bad dream.
Unfortunately for us all, the economy is in the tank and we are all
suffering financially in one way or many ways.
Within our
families, where we all serve as CFFO (Chief Family Fun Officer) we have
an excellent opportunity to stay the course with our loved ones; the
youngest and most vulnerable in society (our children), in spite of the
doom and gloom around our national economy. They know nothing of Gross
Domestic Products, unless they are the cookies they smell baking in the
oven. They know nothing of Trade Deficits or Trade Imbalance, but they
know how to balance on one foot; they feel a deficit in their spirit if
we as parents don't notice them and praise them for the effort. They
know nothing of the Gold Standard, but their smiles are golden as they
show us their love for life and give us their affection.
In a
way, this downturn in the world's economy has given us all an
unexpected bonanza right in our own home. I don't know about you, but
now that I have significantly less disposable income, I am spending
more of the greatest resource I possess with my three children - time.
It seems that the better the economy is, the less I actually have to
give at home. Now that's what I call a deficit. Our children, being
completely dependant on us for the time we give them, full of love and
appreciation when we do, can sometimes receive so little of us during
periods of economic prosperity. We spend our time scurrying about
chasing the next dollar, when right in front of our nose, running and
playing under foot, lies our most precious of all commodities; our
beautiful children begging for more of our time.
We do love our
kids and, I believe with all my heart that we don't intentionally
neglect them; it's just the Trade Deficit of our focus for our family
bearing down on us. Now that's what I call downward pressure on our
family economy. We earn a living and then don't really live. The
flagging economy has helped me focus on becoming more intentional about
my children, having less grist to feed the money machine and more free
time to allocate to those I love. To be sure, this economy has an
ironic twist to it: less money = more time; less employment = more
parent-to-child interaction; less occupation = less spending, more
investing in the lives of my children. This economy thing plays out in
a counter-intuitive way. Our grandparents and great grandparents lived
through the Great Depression. I have heard stories of how they did with
less, but nonetheless lived richly. Power in relationships rises as the
stock market plunges. Go figure.
For all of our thirty years,
Kidz Love Soccer, Inc. has provided affordable community soccer
services and that makes me proud. It's never been all about the money;
it can't be : ) You don't go into Recreation for the high salary,
that's for sure. Even in this belt-tightening economy, I hope fun time

A little help can go a long way!
Every year we are encouraged and uplifted by the smiles and skills we provide.
Still, some soccer players have the desire but not the means to play.
Kidz Love Soccer Foundation Scholarship Fund
This
non-profit arm of Kidz Love Soccer has been created to fill the void
between desire and need, making available monies to those kidz whose
families simply cannot provide them with the means to join our programs. Please help us provide this "beautiful game" of soccer to any child who wishes to play.
