Frequently Asked Questions

  1. How do I register?
    • Most classes offer online registration through the city Parks and Recreation Department. The easiest way to register is to find your class listing under Class Schedule and click on the link for your class to be taken directly to the cities registration page. You will typically then need to create an account with the city if you don’t already have one.
  2. Can I join in the middle of a session?
    • Typically, enrollment is open into the second session of classes. Policies vary by city, so be sure to contact the Parks & Recreation Department for specific details. Remember, it's best to sign up as early as possibly to ensure a spot.
  3. It's raining or worse! How do I find out if my class is cancelled?
    • If the weather looks threatening you can always call our Class Status Hotline for an update of class cancellations or postponements. In California call (800) 871-2275. In Washington call (866) 590-9965. You will be informed of make up class dates by your coach once the weather has cleared and your class has resumed.
  4. How come I can’t find the class price and why does it cost more in my city than my friend’s city?
    • You can find the fees by clicking on the “Sign up now” links on the class and camp schedule pages. This will take you directly to the KLS or your city’s registration page. Most Kidz Love Soccer classes are offered in partnership with city Park and Recreation Departments. They provide field space, advertising and other infrastructure support. For these services they collect a percentage of class fees. No two Park and Recreation Departments fees are the same, and as a result class prices can vary.
  5. How long are the classes?
    • Class times vary by age group and range from 30 – 45 min.
  6. What should my kids wear?
    • All students must have shin guards and knee-high socks when participating in KLS activities. No cleats are allowed for indoor programs. Participants should wear comfortable clothes and plain tennis shoes or soccer cleats.
  7. What are the class ratios?
    • Over 30 years time we’ve developed guidelines for what we believe the optimal ratio of coach to student is in each of our programs. We use these guidelines to structure and schedule our classes. These guidelines are often adapted in each individual city where we work. Sometimes they are modified to better fit the type of facility available. Other times city requirements or rules dictate very different class sizes. Below are what we believe is optimal, but again, programs in each city may differ considerably based on the city’s specific rules, facilities, needs and requirements.
      • Mommy/Daddy and Me - 20:1 (with parent participation)
      • Tot and Pre - 10:1
      • Soccer 1, Soccer 2 and Soccer 3 - 12:1
  8. How long are your sessions?
    • In most locations, we offer 4 sessions a year.
  9. If my child is advanced can they move up to the next class even if they are not old enough yet?
    • Only with coach’s permission. We typically ask that you attend the first class in the appropriate age group. Only after the coach has met your child and the children in both the current class and the next class up can they make an informed decision as to the children’s abilities, demeanor, physical size, and class sizes to determine what class would be best.
  10. What kind of instructors do you have?
    • All instructors are carefully screened to ensure we provide quality, child- centered and high energy instruction. Instructors go through our proprietary training process which includes, among other things, child development theory and background checks.
  11. How come they don't play more soccer in this program?
    • While many soccer programs are busy using adult-like skill drills to hammer home the fundamentals of soccer, we approach coaching from a child-centered perspective. In other words, we make learning fun for kids. We put instruction into a context children understand using special techniques designed around how kids naturally learn. KLS not only teaches your child the fundamentals of soccer, but also focuses on developing the whole child. Our program helps develop a child's social, emotional, and cognitive skills while exercising the child's body and creating players who are well-balanced and conscientious on and off the soccer field.
  12. When should my child move up to the next class?
    • Advancing to the next class really depends on the child and how they are doing in the class. Sports at this level are much more about overall growth and the experience than just physical capabilities. Prior to moving a child, we consider not just their physical needs, but also their emotional and cognitive needs. This helps create a successful learning environment and creates a balanced player. Your child's instructor can help evaluate which class is most appropriate for his or her needs.
  13. Can I pay as we go during the session?
    • The entire session must be paid in full at the time of registration.
  14. Even if my child is not old enough can they be in the class with a sibling?
    • Our classes are developed to be age and skill appropriate. Only after the coach has met your child and the children in both the current class and the next class up can they make an informed decision as to the children’s abilities, demeanor, physical size, and class sizes to determine what class would be best.
  15. Can I make sure a specific child is not in my class?
    • We will not restrict children from any class as long as the child is well-suited for the class. We do have several times and days available for each class to accommodate your needs.
  16. Do you have scholarships?
    • We are currently working on a scholarship program. Please check back in the summer for updated information regarding available scholarhip programs.
  17. Can I have a specific coach? I've heard they were great!
    • You can request a specific coach however coaching schedules aren't typically finalized until after class enrollment has closed. While we cannot guarantee a specific coach to any one location, we make every effort to ensure continuity of coaching from season to season. You are welcome to inquire approximately one week prior to the start of a session.
  18. Can I sign up online?
    • This varies by city. Most cities with online registration can be reached via the Class or Camp schedule links on this website.
